Italian Modifying Suffixes Nomi Alterati

Sometimes an Italian noun can be modified to express a particular quality (large, small, pretty, ugly) without using a qualifying Italian adjective. These nouns are created by taking the root of the noun and adding a suffix such as -ino, -one, -etto, or -accio. Italian nouns formed this way are called i nomi alterati (altered, or modified, nouns). Italian grammarians refer to this type of suffix modification as alterazione (alteration). There are four types of nomi alterati: diminutivi (diminutives), accrescitivi (augmentatives), vezzeggiativi (pet names or terms of endearment), and peggiorativi or dispregiativi (pejoratives or derogatory terms). Most common Italian nouns can be modified, but keep in mind that the gender and number of the suffix must agree with the noun. Using Nomi Alterati How and when are modified Italian nouns used? Unlike, for example, choosing auxiliary verbs or forming plural adjectives, Italian speakers are never required to use nomi alterati. There are no hard and fast grammar rules for when its appropriate, in conversation or print, to use them. Rather, its a personal linguistic choice—some people use them frequently, and others tend to use adjectives instead. It also depends on the audience, the setting, and on the level of rapport between the parties. In certain situations, some modified Italian nouns would be inappropriate or out of context. But using a well-chosen nome alterato, pronounced with the right inflection and tone, can communicate volumes. In one sense, its analogous to humor—timing is everything. Alterati Diminutivi (Diminutives) A diminutivo usually conveys such meanings as: small, tiny. The following are examples of suffissi alterativi (alternate endings) used to form diminutivi (diminutives): -ino: mamma—mammina; minestra—minestrina; pensiero—pensierino; ragazzo—ragazzino-(i)cino (a variant of -ino): bastone—bastoncino; libro—libric(c)ino-olino (a variant of -ino): sasso—sassolino; topo—topolino; freddo—freddolino; magro—magrolino-etto: bacio—bacetto; camera—cameretta; casa—casetta; lupo—lupetto; basso—bassetto; piccolo—piccoletto. Frequently used concurrently with other suffixes: scarpa—scarpetta—scarpettina; secco—secchetto—secchettino-ello: albero—alberello; asino—asinello; paese—paesello; rondine—rondinella; cattivo—cattivello; povero—poverello-(i)cello (a variant of -ello): campo—campicello; informazione—informazioncella-erello (a variant of -ello): fatto—fatterello; fuoco—f(u)ocherello. Frequently used concurrently with other suffixes: storia—storiellaà ¢â‚¬â€storiellina; bucco—bucherello—bucherellino-icci(u)olo: asta—asticci(u)ola; festa—festicciola; porto—porticciolo; sometimes can also have a pejorative sense: donna—donnicci(u)ola-(u)olo: faccenda—faccenduola; montagna—montagnuola; poesia—poesiola-otto: contadino—contadinotto; pieno—pienotto; giovane—giovanotto; ragazzo—ragazzotto; basso—bassotto. The ending also refers to a juvenile animal: aquila—aquilotto; lepre—leprotto; passero—passerotto-iciattolo (considered a diminutive/pejorative combination): febbre—febbriciattolo; fiume—fiumiciattolo; libro—libriciattolo; mostro—mostriciattolo Alterati Accrescitivi (Augmentatives) An accrescitivo usually conveys such meanings as: large, big, grand. It is the opposite of a diminutive. The following are examples of suffissi alterativi (alternate endings) used to form accrescitivi (augmentatives): -one: febbre—febbrona (febbrone); libro—librone; pigro—pigrone; mano—manona (manone); ghiotto—ghiottone. Frequently used concurrently with other suffixes: uomo—omaccio—omaccione; pazzo—pazzerello—pazzerellone. Sometimes the intermediate term is not used in contemporary Italian: buono—bonaccione-acchione (has an ironic connotation): frate—fratacchione; volpe—volpacchione; furbo—furbacchione; matto—mattachione Alterati Vezzeggiativi (Pet Names or Terms of Endearment) A  vezzeggiativo  usually conveys such meanings  as:  affection, sympathy, enjoyment, grace. The following are examples of  suffissi alterativi  (alternate endings) used to form  vezzeggiativi  (pet names or terms of endearment): -acchiotto  (considered a diminutive/pet name combination): lupo—lupacchiotto; orso—orsacchiotto; volpe—volpacchiotto; furbo—furbacchiotto-uccio: avvocato—avvocatuccio; casa—casuccia; cavallo—cavalluccio; caldo—calduccio; freddo—fredduccio-uzzo  (a variant of -uccio): pietra—pietruzza Paolo, a native Italian speaker from Milano, gives an  example of how  vezzeggiativi  are used: I have a friend who calls me Paoletto. This doesnt sound very much like a man, of course, but its out of affection. More realistically, my brother calls me Paolone, Big Paolo. Alterati Peggiorativi (Pejoratives) A  peggiorativo  usually conveys such meanings as: contempt, defiance, disdain, scorn (for), disregard, self-contempt, self-disgust. The following are examples of  suffissi alterativi  (alternate endings) used to form  peggiorativi  (pejoratives): -ucolo: donna—donnucola; maestro—maestrucolo; poeta—poetucolo-accio: coltello—coltellaccio; libro—libraccio; voce—vociaccia; avaro—avaraccio-azzo  (a variant of -accio): amore—amorazzo; coda—codazzo-astro  (has a pejorative sense when the root is a noun, and an attenuated sense when the root is an adjective): medico—medicastro; poeta—poetastro; politico—politicastro; bianco—biancastro; dolce—dolciastro; rosso—rossastro Spelling Changes to Noun Root When creating  i nomi alterati, a few nouns undergo a spelling change to the root when modified. For example: uomo—omonecane—cagnone Sex Changes to Noun Root In some instances the root noun changes gender when creating  i nomi alterati. For example: barca (feminine noun)—un barcone (masculine noun): a large boatdonna (feminine noun)—un donnone (masculine noun): a big (large) womanfebbre (feminine noun)—un febbrone (masculine noun): very high feversala (feminine noun)—un salone (masculine noun): a large room Alterati Falsi Certain nouns that appear to be  nomi alterati  are actually nouns in and off themselves. For example, the following forms are  falsi alterati  (false altered nouns): tacchino  (not the diminutive of  tacco)bottone  (not the augmentative of  botto)mattone  (not the augmentative of  matto)focaccia  (not the pejorative of  foca)occhiello  (not the diminutive of  occhio)burrone  (not the augmentative of  burro)colletto  (not the diminutive of  collo)collina  (not the diminutive of  colla)limone  (not the augmentative of  lima)cerotto  (not the augmentative of  cero) In addition, be aware when creating  nomi alterati  that not all nouns can be combined with all suffixes. Either the term sounds off-key to the ear (Italian is a musical language, after all), or the resulting word is linguistically awkward. In general, the repetition of the same sound element in both the root and suffix should be avoided:  tetto  can be modified into  tettino  or  tettuccio, but not  tettetto;  contadino  can be modified into  contadinello  or  contadinetto, but not  contadinino. Its best to use only forms you have observed in print or heard used by native speakers. When in doubt, consult a dictionary. On the other hand, if you want to stretch your creative language skills, try coining a  neologismo  (neologism). Matching nouns with previously unused modifying suffixes is one way that new words are formed. After all, youd get a big laugh from native Italians if, after eating an unappetizing pizza, you were to declare, Che  pizzaccia!.

Further throughout the story the tunnel is shown as the symbol of the story; letting the reader know that Jerry senses that it is the door to his identity. Additionally, the chronological structure is effective throughout the story in showing the process of growing up and an insight into Jerry’s transformation. Moreover, the 3rd person omniscient narrator and formal register presents the character of Jerry and his mother in a distanced way and without a biased perspective. This suggests the sense of detachment and alienation that Jerry is starting to feel from his mother as he is growing up and wanting to make his own choices. The story is firstly introduced with a description of the mother carrying a br ight striped purse. It was this and other uses of describing Jerry’s surroundings with the use of bright colours symbolising jerry’s childish world and thoughts. In addition, the thought of jerry’s childish thoughts shows his struggle to establish his own identity. The author writes that Jerry goes swimming â€Å"over a region where rocks lay like discoloured monsters under the surface†. The simile shows that even though Jerry wants to be independent and swim alone in the bay, he’s terrified of being alone in the water and not seeing his mother again. Despite Cases of Advancement in Cancer Care â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Explain Despite Cases of Advancement in Cancer Care? Answer: Introduction Despite cases of advancement in cancer care, pancreatic cancer stands to be one of the most malignant tumors among the population in the society. The diagnosis of patients with pancreatic cancer always take place in late stage disease and less than six percent of patients remain to be alive five years prior diagnosis. About ten to twenty percent of patients who are candidates for resection and multi-modality therapy mostly succumb to the diseases with five years survival rates only reaching about twenty-five percent (Yeo, 2015). From such data, it is clear that there is a need to improve the care and management of the pancreatic disease. To be capable of identifying gaps in the investigation and formulate appropriate strategies to address these issues, the design of this paper focuses on developing a framework to encompass the scope of study for pancreatic cancer. In this article, the ideas presented examine each topic heading within the framework for gaps in knowledge and current st rategies for research focusing on diverse methodologies of effective comparative investigation to address the identified gaps. Therefore, the ideas presented in this section include the objectives of the study, research design, and measurement tools, research plans, explaining the limitations and strengths of the research before drawing logical recommendations from the obtained results. Objectives of study The objectives for this useful research in the health care sector aims at exploring cases of pancreatic cancer by finding out on different strategies and management plans that can be implementable by health sector to control the disaster. Therefore, the objective of the study focuses on the search if an appropriate choice of mode of examination can have had the positive result of controlling the prevalence of cases of pancreatic cancer among patients (Bates, 2012). The primary objective of the review is: To explore the best strategies and management approaches applicable in health care sector to improve the health status of patients who have pancreatic cancer. Other objectives To determine what are some of the literature information concerning pancreatic cancer and management dynamics that contributes to adequate health care among patients. To determine the relations amongst the momentum of health sector effectiveness in the provision of quality health care strategies among patients who have pancreatic cancer. To highlight that the causes of creating cancer are ever changing by showing that it is a systemic disease and the local problem among medics and patients. To emphasize that the pancreatic cancer is the preventable disease for many if proper screening is achievable in the corect stage. Research design The strategies of the investigation focus on the evaluation of the implementation of health management system in the healthcare sector that will be necessary to the advancement of controlling, preventing, and treating patients exposed to pancreatic cancer. The design for the selection process of patients will aid in the determination of the procedure to use in the collection of appropriate information after getting the authority to gain data from the health sector. The evaluation of different strategies that affect control and prevention of pancreatic cancer will be vital to the surveyors (Wilson, 2014). The design will help researchers to determine the influence of implementation of health management system on operations the health facilities around the society. Therefore, the access to different data from patients who had pancreatic cancer will assist in the understanding of various factors that tend to affect the control of this health issue in the health industry. The result obtained during the survey is designable to aid in offering the appropriate baseline approaches. These strategies will help health professionals and other stakeholders to take intervention actions focusing on the evaluation of the implementation of health management system on health sector globally. Moreover, the design of this study will allow the collection of data to be using questionnaire. The questionnaires will comprise of qualitative study questions along with quantitative research questions (Enweluzo, 2013). The issues in the quantitative will consist of twenty questions aimed for one hundred patients at the health facility randomly picked. The patients will have to answer the questions about the care they get from health professionals about prevention and controlling creating cancer. There will be the need for the survey to involve the use of systematic literature review. The review will be the most feasible approach that will aid in the facilitation of completion of the investigation. According to Simeone (2013), research design on course methodology will form a major material used for reference to other investigators. The other researchers can use the models to improve on how they deal with the evaluation of the implementation of best health care management for patients. Measurement tools The tools used for this research must follow the greater highlights on the approaches implementation in the research methodology. These tools must be able to show the techniques applicable in achieving different data in the implementation of health management strategies to control cases of pancreatic cancer among patients. The use of questionnaires for household surveys plays an essential purpose in the study. For example, the use of questionnaire with questions designed in a qualitative approach plays a significant role in obtaining views from patients and medical professionals (Wang et al., 2016). The plan of using surveys designed with qualitative questions will facilitate the surveyors to be able to assess and analyze the behavior of respondents. The survey will involve the application of research plans. The tools for research like the use of questionnaires or telephones to interview the defendant will only focus on the collection of necessary data and moral issues during the process. The presented tools such as surveys with qualitative and quantitative questions will all concentrate on well-structured ideas that can help in attaining the necessary outcomes concerning the health care issue (Theofilou, 2012). The tools applied for the collection of data can further facilitate the creation of several factors that manipulate implementation of health management approaches on the matter of pancreatic cancer. According to Goggins (2011), the use of questionnaires as tools for collection of data during the survey aid in the provision of the best explanation of application system that deals with the administration of correct health procedures to control cases of pancreatic cancer. The tools will aim at addressing the concern of appro priate survey, remuneration that health professionals and patients will have in the implementation of health management in dealing with cases of pancreatic cancer. The need to follow and offer appropriate care to control and cure cases of pancreatic cancer involves the use of qualitative along with quantitative tools for the survey. These tools will help to show how health care sector and its shareholders can plan for different strategies to maintain the wellbeing of patients (Gilani et al., 2016). The use of questionnaires in the collection of qualitative information from health sector follows the applications of a questionnaire that comprises of vital inquiries. Therefore, there is a need for guidance for interview and examination for the study to be recognizable in the model that allow for the achievement of the adeuate address of the inquiry in the survey. Research plan The procedures followed during the investigation have to be through steadily on the daily foundations until the researcher can reach the required size of the sample. There is a need for the surveyor to contact the local administration, the medics in charge of a given area, and individuals with the letter seeking the permission to conduct the survey with the patients who visit different facilities and health care practitioners as the respondents. As report by Pollak (2012), the plan for rechecking of completes questionnaires and any other tool used during the study for collection of appropriate data is necessary. The ideas of rechecking research tools help to identify and improve any case of discrepancies in data while enabling the researchers to take the necessary step to correct such tools. Moreover, the tools used for the study can go through the test before collection of information (Holth, 2017). The testing of every tool helps in ensuring that every device that will be applicabl e in the study such as questionnaires will cover all the research questions and objectives. Appropriateness of statistics and clarity of results presentations The study involves several research methods for collection of data. Some of the methods for collection of data in this study comprises of observation, oral interview, administration of questionnaires, and sampling. Besides, various interviews done by the use of sampling strata of the respondent will be necessary. The idea will help in ensuring that the response will be accurate and obtained from people within the health care sector. According to Klein (2014), there is a need to plan for quality control of data in the research. Quality control planning will aid the researcher to include the aim of analyzing keywords of "Pancreatic Cancer and use of different literature studies in the collection of the required data in the survey. The use of web platforms will be essential for this study as it in attaining the range of literature work on the issue as presented by several surveyors in their past works. Moreover, after review of collected data, there is a need to recheck the gathered dat a (Rong et al., 2013). The rechecking process will ensure that the outcome is of high quality and when the cases of discrepancy occur, it gets elimination before the course of entering the information computer for further analysis. The use of systematic literature review in designing for the research is a major factor. The plan helps in the creation of the probability that separates the samples into the diverse section. The ideas assist in facilitating the organization of different samples to help the collected data to stay distinct on the issue under investigation (Harris, 2011). Consequently, the appropriate plan for techniques of collecting data that comprises of quantitative along with qualitative approaches can be essential during data analysis process. The other methods in the research program that can be applicable for the implementation focus on the management of pancreatic cancer among patients. The plan allows the study to involve methods of qualitative research that will help the investigation to focus on in-depth data. The project to use qualitative research approaches the researcher to obtain the data regarded to be non-numerical and integrate the application of research questions that are non-stru ctured in the tools used for the study like questionnaires. Therefore, the obtained data is essential in getting the informant interviews as well as discussion of the focus group to arrive at the best approaches to managing cases of pancreatic cancer around the society. From Peckenpaugh (2011) study, the use of secondary sources of information concerning the issue under study assists in data collection. Data collection for the investigation focuses on the samples taken from shareholders in the health sector and affected by the implementation of health management plan to look at the prevalence and control of pancreatic cancer among patients. Similarly, initial data are attainable by the application of different structured and semi- interviews questionnaires that are the discussion among focus group, observations together with the key informant. Limitations and strengths of the research design and methodology The outcome from the respondents contacted in the study can remain compromised by the need of more time for the completion of the survey. According to the report by Leake (2014), lack of adequate financial support for catering for activities within the research plan, design, and activities may result in getting the inappropriate retreat. The obtained retreat might lead to the compromisation of the research findings during reviewing process of the outcomes. Therefore, research plan on cases of pancreatic cancer within the health sector has to focus on different shifts that come with the uses of various strategies on the management of the health. It should evolve around the development of appropriate research design to ensure that the surveyor achieves the correct result (Huang et al., 2016). The researchers need to use a lot of resources and time on maintaining the principal purpose of the design and planning of the investigation (Naurocki, 2015). Moreover, the primary object must be under consideration because the review of activities within the study involves many issues that come from different views of respondents. The other limitation of the research might arise during the selection process of significant sources of obtaining auxiliary data to be applicable during the review. The use of different methods results in different outcomes that might affect the conclusions and recommendations that are essential for the provision of ideal strategies to handle pancreatic cancer (Littenberg Lubetkin, 2016). For instance, the use of qualitative approach included in the survey concentrates on the in-depth data that is non-numerical and incorporates the use of research questions that come in the non-structured form in the focused group discussions, questionnaires, along with the main informant interviews. Moreover, the use of quantitative approaches concentrates on information in the numerical shape and comprises of application of structured questions in the investigations and secondary sources for data collection. Moreover, the strengths of the study result from the idea that the survey shows parameters that need to undergo vital considerations before starting the process of gathering necessary information. Mantoni et al., (2011) reported that the presence of adequate funds for the study helps in computation the accumulated data. Maintaining professional traits aid the researchers to focus on management of different effects on the professional collaborations during the process of research planning. Findings of the study The results of the proper planned and designed survey will help in finding an efficient utilization of available resources to achieve desirable outcomes in the management of pancreatic cancer among the population. The results of this study are essential as they help different health care sectors in the process of evaluating different strategies that might be unavailable in their operations that make the cases of pancreatic cancer to be unbearable. The use of multiple case study on the issue of pancreatic cancer assist the health professionals to set appropriate financial schemes to deal with ever increasing cases of pancreatic cancer among patients (Gooden White, 2013). Besides, examination of funds to cater for the provision of care aid in ensuring that health sector and its shareholders do not impose different charges in the form of charges for the delivery of care to patients with pancreatic cancer (Organoid Model Advances Pancreatic Cancer Research, 2015). The case study can hel p doctors and nurses to make different recommendations that can facilitate appropriate strategies in offering great responses in tackling cases of pancreatic cancer before diagnosis and after diagnosis of patients. Therefore, the findings of the study will assist the complete health care sector to have the strong relation amid different departments leading to eradication of cases of pancreatic cancer that might result in an international health issue. Recommendations The study should focus on the application of various research methods to come up with the efficient approaches that can apply to manage and cure pancreatic cancer. According to Goggins (2011), the use of qualitative along with quantitative research methods is vital in the provision of appropriate strategies in the management of pancreatic cancer. These methods form the valuable material that the health shareholders can use as reference tools on the modes of dealing with cases of increased pancreatic cancer among people in the society. From the study, health practitioners can be able to create right strategies of managing rising cases of pancreatic cancer by sharing with other health professionals on ideas to use in treatment and controlling the issue.
